An Almanac of Notable Figures

"Facts and truth really don't have much to do with each other."
William Faulkner

We tend to think of history as a fact-based account of what has happened in the past.  This definition serves as a guiding ideal for academics and journalists, but it misses a simple truth-- a good story has a life that no fact can supress.

Our own lives are full of these stories-- actual occurances shaped by recollection, transformed into tall tales through retelling-- legends woven into the fabric of our lives.  Characters who shape our understanding of the world.

'An Almanac of Notable Figures' will be a compilation of these characters.  I will create drawings and paintings based on the descriptions provided by you and other people like you.  Through this retelling, your characters will move out into the world on their own-- legends in their own right, no longer tied to memory.

To participate, fill out the form below.  Please focus on people from your own life.  Celebrities and folk heros are already legends.

Feel free to write about any person from your life that you choose.  If you'd like something to get you started try the memory prompt below (refresh the page if you'd like a different prompt).
